I wonder why I do it to myself sometimes but I’ve got quite a build up of things to read currently, besides the normal Creative Review and Wired I have Process Journal #5, 8 Faces #3, Ideas Illustrated Relocation and Eight:48 #6.
I’m sure I will get through it eventually but I just don’t have the quality train ride time I used to when I was working at Rocket Base.
Been a little while since I last looked at what I’ve been buying recently so here’s the latest additions to my library.
1 - Eight:48 No.3 - Bought the last two so thought I’d carry that on, this one seems to be more of a pretty poster pictures issue and less wordy but least it came with a nice poster.
2 - Longshot and Stranded - The MagCloud magazines, Longshot is an interesting combination of random articles all made in 48 hours while Stranded has taken a little longer but was inspired by the same thing as Longshot originally was; the ash cloud disruption.
3 - Ferocious Quarterly - Nice little glossy book/magazine full of beautiful illustrations, thoughtful words and charming comics.
4 - Karen, Gym Class Magazine and Manzine - All bought from the magCulture store, Manzine has since sold out (that was quick!) which is not surprising because they are all rather lovely.
5 - Blood, Sweat and Tea - Free when I resubscribed to Stack Magazines, very interesting, charming and worrying account of life as a London Ambulance EMT.
6 - Latest Creative Review and Monograph - Best Monograph since I subscribed and the main magazine looks good too.
All good fun.
At the start of the week I bought a set of Grotesque adana letterpress letters, today I got them. Unsurprisingly they’re pretty tiny which will make creating a DIY press for them pretty fiddly but I’ve got a few days until my newspapers arrive.
The plan is to letterpress the addresses onto some card envelopes for that extra sense of quality. I have some acrylic ink which I figure will be suitable.
I guess I’ll just flip round a letter if I want a space. Gives me something extra to do.
So my copy of ‘This Year I Will Try Not To’ arrived yesterday, it’s nicely designed and print on good quality newsprint. It’s in black and white which is fine for the most part but the page about colours (last photo) doesn’t really work when you don’t know what those colours are.
I think I’ve managed to avoid most of them. Well okay, at least a few.
Well these are all the things I have to read, quite a few. From top to bottom there’s Be Brave, this month’s Creative Review and Monograph, Ideas Illustrated the money issue, Longshot and Art Licks.
Lovely.
Just bought a copy of @artlicks new magazine. I’ll admit I’ve never read the site before but it looked to nice to pass up.
Bought this today, it’s information about transitioning from University to the real world should come in handy.
Well I’ve given it a read and it’s quite nice, they cover the subject (Happiness) in different ways, from walks, music, works and a lovely bit of poetry.
Yay it came today, very nice looking, looking forward to reading this.
Got my bundle of mags today which were waiting for me in Winchester. Looking forward to getting through it.
